Two days ago I became the proud uncle of Yasmin Patricia Taslimi born to my brother Peter and his wife Mary. Peter is 49 years old this year - not too shabby! and this is his second child. It's his wife’s first child though.

They were planning to have the child at home with the assistance of mid-wives. A temporary bath had been setup, in which Mary would lie and give birth to the child in water. This technique was pioneered by the Russians and is supposed to provide the child with a smoother entry into the world.
Unfortunately, though things do not always go as planned. After about 12 hours of being in labour at home (ouch!!) Yasmin seemed to be stuck. So everything was packed up and the all went off to the hospital. There it was decided that the best method would be have a Caesarian birth. Mary did not like this idea at all but she was in so much pain that she finally said okay - anything to stop the pain and get Yasmin out.
So it was that just after midnight on February 21 Yasmin Patricia Taslimi was born.
